A: Deck tiles are more efficient to use when the deck is installed over the top of a waterproof membrane or over hidden utilities (such as electrical or plant watering systems) that would require occasional access for maintenance or repair. The modular aspect of a deck tile system allows one or several deck tiles to be easily and quickly pulled up for access to the space below. In addition, deck tiles offer a more unique look as compared to linear decking.

A: If your space is much larger than 100 ft2, then lean towards the 2×2′ size; if smaller than 100 ft2, then the 1×1’s will probably provide a better look. Of course, there is no hard and fast rule to this, any size can work in any space depending on your preferences.

A: Nearly all tropical hardwoods will long outlast normal North American temperate hardwoods in continuous outdoor exposure. But the difference in longevity and durability between the species such as Ipê, Massaranduba, and Cumaru is minimal. They will all be structurally sound for several decades. Pick whichever species looks the best and feels right to you; they will all last.
